Casa Balla: the futurist house in Rome between colors and illusions

A little known place, unique, eclectic and colorful: have you ever heard of Casa Balla?

In Rome, in the Della Vittoria district, to be precise in Via Oslavia, there is a secret apartment that is, in reality, a kaleidoscope of geometries, bright colors and artistic experiments capable of giving a unique experience.

It is the home of Giacomo Balla, the futurist artist who lived in these rooms, meticulously decorated by himself, from the 1920s until his death in 1958, in the company of his wife Elisa and their daughters Luce and Elica.

It’s a secret pearl, a "total" work of art reopened to the public only a few years ago: here everything, from furniture to tiles, from clothes to frescoes, gives shape to a colorful and dynamic world. Thus a normal bourgeois apartment is transformed into a space of imagination and creativity that can make the visitor gape.

It is really strange to think that this place has been trapped in time for decades, until, in 2002, Domitilla Dardi, curator, and Bartolomeo Pietromarchi, director of MAXXI art, received the keys and unveiled a futuristic universe - now finally open to the public.

It will be possible to visit Casa Balla until 28 January 2024, from Thursday to Sunday from 10 am to 7 pm.

If you want to book your visit you can write to us at [email protected] , we will be happy to help..
